Having a Wedding with a Reconstituted Family

Having a Wedding with a Reconstituted Family

A reconstituted family is otherwise known as a blended family usually is a result of parents having kids from a previous relationship. They then have to come together to the new spouses and blend together to make a new big family. When the parents then decide to have a wedding, questions might arise on how they will incorporate all the children. Blend family weddings can be estranged by how you decide to have everyone play a part.

First of all, check out your wedding invitations, this way you will avoid potential conflicts for unintentionally leaving a name out.

  • Best man and maiden of honor. There are also various ways to have your reconstituted family members playing a part. In some cases, a couple may have their ex-husband or ex-wife being the best man or the best lady, and that actually works.
  • Walk down the aisle. There are also a couple of ways where you can have the children participating without being left behind. For instance, you can have the little girls and boys being the flower girls and the pageboys to walk before the bride as she walks down the aisle. You can also have your family walk down the aisle before the bride. I know of a person who had 17 members of the family coming down the aisle, and it was such a great moment.
  • The Vows. During the vows, you can have all the children standing beside you as this makes the moment more engaging. It could even be better if the parent said some vows to the children as a sign of strengthening their bonds and the relationship at large. Not only is this a cute moment but it can also be a teary one filled with emotions and so much joy.
  • Rituals that blend the family. There are various rituals that families include in their ceremony to tighten the bond. I know of a specific one where the family members get to light unity candles as a symbol of unity. Others include giving both parents something special to symbolize unity and blending of the families.
  • Include them in your entertainment. If you have a talented family member, who is willing to perform at your ceremony, allow them to do so. This is a one-time ceremony, and it will be a heartfelt moment when the music or a poem is being read by someone who you care about. You can also dance with them, and it could be a nice thing to have a special dance routine with them. This can be a lot of fun and a surprise to your guests.
  • Let them speak words of blessings. Having your loved ones speak some blessing at your wedding is one of the most heartfelt moment. Therefore you should let those people who have something to say take the stand and bless your marriage. This includes having the stepfamily, and the ex's involved too. Just ensure that before these, you are in good terms.
